Cookie Policy
Learn how we use cookies to provide you with the best possible user experience.
What are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit our website. They help us provide you with a better user experience.
1. What cookies do we use?
Necessary Cookies
Essential for the functioning of our website (e.g., login, security).
- Authentication: Stores your login data
- Security: Protection against Cross-Site-Request-Forgery
Functional Cookies
Store your preferences (e.g., language settings, theme).
Analytical Cookies
These cookies help us understand how you use our website so we can keep improving it — which pages are opened, how long visitors stay, and which content is popular.
- Usage statistics: anonymised data about page views
- Performance monitoring: load times and technical metrics
- Error reports: automatic capture of technical problems
We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) for this. It sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID>, with a lifetime of up to two years. Nothing is stored without your consent — the script starts with storage denied.
Marketing Cookies
These cookies measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram led to a visit, and allow us to show relevant ads to visitors later. No advertising is displayed on this website itself.
- Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited): cookie
_fbp, lifetime up to three months. It transmits the page viewed, device and browser details and your IP address — but not your name, email address or payment details.
The Meta Pixel is loaded only after you accept the “Marketing” category. If you decline, it is not present on the page at all. Details on the legal basis and transfers to the USA are in the privacy policy under “Analytics & Advertising”.
2. Local storage without a cookie (weekly plan without an account)
If you try the weekly plan without an account, your answers from the questionnaire are not stored in a cookie but in your browser's local storage under the key upfood_guest_profile_v1.
What this means in practice
- The data stays on your device. It is not sent to our server and not stored by us.
- Unlike a cookie, local storage is not automatically sent with every request.
- Your weekly plan is calculated in your browser — without an account, no record is created on our side.
- No cookie is set for this and no tracking takes place.
The legal basis is Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG: the storage is strictly necessary for us to provide the weekly plan you explicitly requested. No consent is required, which is why no banner appears for it.
Deleting it: the entry stays until you remove it. Clear the site data for up-food.com in your browser, or create an account — we then transfer the answers into your profile and delete the local copy.
This is described in full in our privacy policy under section 2c "If you try the weekly plan without an account".
3. Cookie Management
You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Browser Settings
Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Check your browser's help section for details.
4. Third-Party Cookies
We use services from trusted third parties that may set their own cookies:
- Payment processing (Stripe): for secure transactions
- Authentication: for signing in
- Google Analytics 4: audience measurement — only with consent to the “Analytics” category
- Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram): ad measurement — only with consent to the “Marketing” category
5. Your Rights
You have the right to know what cookies we use and to withdraw consent for non-essential cookies.
6. Contact
If you have questions about our cookie usage, please contact us.
